CHELSEA
Liverpool v Chelsea
Chelsea kicked started their Carabao Cup leg in September 2018 where they went against Liverpool, who currently hold the most EFL wins. They entered the second half 0-0, but it wasn’t long before both teams secured goals. Luckily Hazard was introduced as a substitute during the second half and managed to score another before the final whistle.
Chelsea v Derby
Chelsea had a great start during their battle against Derby County and took a 3 - 2 lead before they began the second half. Even though Derby performed at their best, Chelsea took the win and knocked Derby out from the Carabao Cup.
Chelsea v Bournemouth
Next up for Chelsea was AFC Bournemouth who kept the blues on their toes. Neither team scored during the first half meaning they needed to up their game. Chelsea stole the win with 1 goal, again from Hazard, finishing with a 1 - 0 victory.
Chelsea v Tottenham
Chelsea began their first leg of the semi-final, and although so far they hadn’t lost a game they, unfortunately, couldn’t beat Spurs. Within the first half, their opponents had 1 goal on the board which carried them to victory. The final score was 1 - 0.
But Chelsea was out for revenge and when the two teams met again, it was an intense game. By half time Chelsea had scored 2 goals, leaving spurs thinking about their strategy. They managed to score in the second half taking the game to penalties where Chelsea managed to steal the win after a 4 - 2 penalty shootout.
MANCHESTER CITY
Oxford v Man City
Unlike Chelsea’s opening EFL Cup match Manchester City managed to score their first goal in the first half, which was later followed by two more. Oxford United was no match for Man City and their defence only got stronger throughout the game taking a 3 - 0 win.
Man City v Fulham
In November, Manchester City hosted a game against Fulham where they managed to get another win under their belt. Despite Fulham’s best efforts, City took the lead and - victory - with a 2 - 0 result.
Leicester v Man City
Following two successful rounds, Manchester City took on their third opponent, Leicester City. Both teams played to their best abilities however Man City scored within the first half, during the second half their competitors were keen to even up the score. The final full-time score was equalled at 1 - 1 and it was only after penalties (3 - 1) City managed to secure yet another win.
Man City v Burton Albion
Manchester City had managed to make it into the semi-finals along with Burton Albion. City destroyed the competition as soon as the game began, entering the first half with a 4 - 0 lead. Regardless of Burton’s effort, they were unable to win back the title and City took the win with an epic 9 - 0 score.
Burton now had the chance to welcome City to their ground, they prepared to put the opposing team under pressure however Manchester City didn’t show weakness. City scored their one and only winning goal before the half time whistle. Final score 0 - 1.
So far City haven't lost a game, will this put Chelsea off their stride or put fire in their bellies for that win? Either way it doesn’t look like City are prepared to hand over the Carabao Cup trophy easily.
