England Cricket have announced that Jason Roy has made it into the Test squad for their clash against Ireland this Summer.

After Jason Roy’s impressive performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, he has been called up to the Test squad for the first time and is now one step closer to playing in this Summer’s Ashes.

Many believe that Roy deserves the chance to prove himself at Test cricket level although are unsure on whether his technique will stand up against the opponents on Wednesday 24th July.

Ed Smith gave his full backing to Roy, telling Sky Sports: “We have total confidence he will be able to adapt to red ball cricket.”

Roy batted at number three for the Lions against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, making a superb 59 off 73 balls with two sixes and is now under pressure to continue playing at this standard during his first red ball game. Roy scored an impressive 443 runs in seven innings during England’s successful World Cup campaign and has been branded ‘the complete player’.

Rory Burns, Joe Denly and Ben Foakes will be making their home debuts in Tests as well as the youngest player Sam Curran, who has just returned from a successful run in India. However, news that their two quickest bowlers, Wood and Archer, are suffering from side strains could mean winning the tournament for the first time has come at a cost.
