After last year’s successful debut at Lord’s, The Green Room Live Christmas Event was back again for another spectacular night of entertainment, food and banter.

The event marked the end of a huge year for The Green Room – expanding out to Monaco, Silverstone and even taking on a few new ambassadors! So, here’s what the final Green Room event of the year had to offer its VIP guests…

As they arrived at the venue, our VIP guests were welcomed by a drinks reception where they could meet the other guests, mingle with our ambassadors and even take full advantage of the selfie booth.

The venue this year meant that we could open the doors into the stadium’s seating where guests could look across the pitch, and had the opportunity to get their picture taken. A moment any football fan (especially Chelsea fans!) won’t forget.

As always, The Green Room isn’t the same without our host, Mark Durden-Smith, who kick started the day by introducing our ambassadors Mike Tindall MBE, Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, Sir AP McCoy OBE and Darren Gough to the stage.

Following a superb Q&A with our entertaining ambassadors, a festive three course luncheon was served...

Chicken liver parfait festive mulled spiced red onion marmalade, burnt corn (GF)
Cider Brined Norfolk Turkey Fondant potato, sage and apricot stuffing, bacon wrapped chipolatas, creamed sprouts, smoked bacon, chestnuts, confit carrot, turkey gravy
Eggnog Creme Brulee Pear, ginger, biscuit, nougatine

Next, Mark invited professional ballroom dancer Kristina Rihanoff, along with a few guests, on stage with 2005 Strictly Come Dancing winner Darren Gough who together got everyone up on their feet learning salsa moves. Spoiler alert... Goughie can still shake his hips and certainly has the moves!

Durden-Smith then went around the room searching for our Friends of The Green Room, which included former England cricketer and Dancing on Ice contestant Ryan Sidebottom, Horse Racing trainer Jonjo O’Neill, Welsh actor Julian Lewis Jones, Royalty Zara Tindall and Comedian Rory Bremner who performed impressions of Donald Trump and Barack Obama.

This year The Green Room hosted its first interactive quiz with questions on sport, reality tv and music. Each table had their own team and had to answer all 15 questions for the chance to win a bottle of Champagne. With three tables resulting in the same score we had one last question… How many attendees have been in The Green Room this year? What would you have answered?

Dave Sharp then set the stage for his performance, a professional artist doing live speed painting of two of our ambassadors which would then get auctioned off raising money for our two charity partners Injured Jockeys Fund and Dallaglio RugbyWorks. Dave had everyone in awe as his painting of Mike Tindall was finished in less than 10 minutes and looked incredible!

This led onto Jonny Gould beginning his first of seven lots in the auction, raising thousands for our charities before Dave Sharp began his final masterpiece of Lawrence Dallaglio. Plus, both paintings were signed by the ambassadors themselves!

Mark welcomed all four of our ambassadors back up to the stage where they shared stories from their incredible careers and answered questions from the guests – some of which we don’t think should be repeated!

The final act of the night was DJ Seb Fontaine who played a set encouraging guests to get up and dance at the end of the night. Some even retuning to the Photobooth with silly hats and props! *cough cough* Mike Tindall!

Overall, it was an event packed full of entertainment and surprises - there wasn’t a dull moment! The good news is – The Green Room Live Christmas is retuning in 2020 and you can join us too!
