We put together 10 questions we could ask Jason Roy...

Jason Roy, The Green Room's newest ambassador, phenomenal cricket performances launched his cricketing career at just 17 years old. Roy then secured Surrey’s first Twenty20 hundred when he struck 101 off 57 balls against Kent at Beckenham in 2008 and was a substitute fielder at The Oval for England’s test team against South Africa. Following this, in September 2014 he made his Twenty20 debut against India and against Ireland for ODI the following year. Jason managed to score a career-best 162, also being the second highest ODI score made at the time by an England batsman the last time he played in the ODI team against Sri Lanka.

We sat down with Jason Roy to discover more about him, his cricket career so far and his new role as Hospitality Finder ambassador...

1. Can you tell us something about you that not even Google knows?

I have a cat called Baldrick.

2. What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Never be satisfied with mediocre performances.

3. What is your greatest achievement in Cricket?

Probably has to be my 180 at the MCG.

4. Who was your sporting idol growing up?

I had loads of players that I always enjoyed watching. Whether it was on the rugby pitch or the cricket pitch. All those players had something about them that made them stand out and I loved that.

5. What made you choose cricket?

Wasn’t an easy choice. My main sport that I loved growing up was rugby. Played a decent standard and at 17 I had to make the decision. I based it on length of career and probably more likely to make it to the highest level in cricket.

6. How does it feel to win the County Championship for the first time in 16 years?

Even though I played 2 games it was very special. There’s been a lot of hard work put in during the years leading into this one. Ive been at the club now 10 years as a pro, and it was definitely the highlight of those years.

7. Who is the toughest bowler you’ve come up against?

Too many to name one. Some incredible world class performers out there and it’s a great feeling coming up against them and seeing how you get on. Good fun (at times)

8. What do you prefer about the white ball game?

I have no preference between the three formats. They all hold a different value. It’s an incredible feeling getting a 50 ball 100. On the flip side, it’s also a great feeling getting a 100 in red ball cricket. Like I said I don’t hold a preference I enjoy the tasks behind all the formats.

9. Other than The Green Room at The Oval, which Green Room event would you like to enjoy?

I’m pretty sure there are too many to get it down to one. However Monaco Grand Prix will definitely be up there. Six Nations rugby would also be up there. They are all awesome events!

10. What can our clients expect from The Green Room at The Oval in 2019?

A good laugh and some honest chat from players of the past and present that have performed at the highest level. Don’t think there is anything better than hearing from an ex-player or current player that has been through the ups and downs and succeeded at the highest level.
