Discover more about Lawrence Dallaglio OBE
On the rugby field, Lawrence Dallaglio was one of the most feared opponents of his generation, notorious for his aggressive ball-carrying and impassable defence. Off the field, he continues to demonstrate his passion for sport - imparting insight and wisdom as one of Hospitality Finder’s esteemed ambassadors.
A young Lawrence Dallaglio emerged onto the rugby scene as a stand-out back row during England’s victory in the 1993 Sevens World Cup. It was the first step on a road that would ultimately lead to the greatest achievement imaginable for any professional rugby player.
A rarity in the modern-day game, Lawrence was a one-club man, playing every first-class game of his glittering career for Wasps - celebrating domestic successes including the Premiership title and the Heineken Cup.
He took the helm as club captain in 1995 and made his England debut later that year. In 1997, he received his call up to the British & Irish Lions, featuring in all three matches of a victorious tour in South Africa.
In the Autumn of 1997, Lawrence was handed the England captaincy by Sir Clive Woodward, cementing his status as one of the England’s most influential players.
Dallaglio’s crowning achievement though, came in 2003 at the Rugby World Cup, where he was the only member of the squad to play every minute of England’s glorious World Cup-winning campaign.
Since his retirement from professional rugby in 2008, Lawrence has taken his iconic profile within world rugby to the next level. He played a key role in England’s successful hosting of the 2015 Rugby World Cup and remains an active supporter of the game’s next generation.
In addition to his work directly associated with the game, Lawrence has also made an enormous impact with his charity work, most notably with the inception of the Dallaglio Foundation - which gives opportunities and support to young people from all backgrounds.
His outstanding achievements in both his sport and his extensive charity work saw Lawrence recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, receiving an MBE in 2004 and an OBE in 2008.
