London Golf Club - Heritage Course

Stand on the blue tee of the Heritage's 12th hole and suddenly you will know why Jack Nicklaus is the greatest golfer the world has ever seen.

A sight no man with a pounding heart and jittery swing would relish but still one to savour. An incline cloaked in swaying grass rumbles away from you and the safety of the fairway that cambers right, like Ferrari's Modena test track, seems impossibly far away. You have to see it with your own eyes.

Tantalising and mesmerising - that is Jack's way. His eye for the land and strategic brain brought him legendary status, but also they shaped The Heritage into a purist's dream. Holes rest in natural valleys, cling to crowned slopes and are framed by cuts in the grass as precise as the creases in a guardsman's trousers. Cunning greens bask in all their silky glory, spellbinding in their wondrous texture and purity of roll. Surely, everything must drop.

He has taunted us wiith water, egged us on with risky carries over cradles of sand and set a subtle mental challenge that is stimulating as well as exacting. His lines are gentle and pleasing, but the bite is there too. Add in the glories of nature and you have an intoxicating test.
