Rugby World Cup Blog: Final Preview

 

Where have the last six weeks gone?! This weekend brings us the Rugby World Cup Final between undoubtedly two of the world's best teams. It's nearly time for New Zealand v Australia.

New Zealand Team: Ben Smith; Nehe Milner-Skudder, Conrad Smith, Ma'a Nonu, Julian Savea; Dan Carter, Aaron Smith; Joe Moody, Dane Coles, Owen Franks, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Jerome Kaino, Richie McCaw, Kieran Read.

Replacements: Keven Mealamu, Ben Franks, Charlie Faumuina, Victor Vito, Sam Cane, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Beauden Barrett, Sonny Bill Williams.

Australia Team: Israel Folau; Adam Ashley-Cooper, Tevita Kuridrani, Matt Giteau, Drew Mitchell; Bernard Foley, Will Genia; Scott Sio, Stephen Moore (captain, Sekope Kepu, Kane Douglas, Rob Simmons, Scott Fardy, Michael Hooper, David Pocock.

Replacements: Tatafu Polota-Nau, James Slipper, Greg Holmes, Dean Mumm, Ben McCalman, Nick Phipps, Matt Toomua, Kurtley Beale.

 

RUGBY WORLD CUP FINAL - FACT FILE

- New Zealand are current holders of the title and are looking to be the first team to retain the title. 

- Both teams have won the tournament twice.

- New Zealand are using the same team as they had in their Semi-Final clash against South Africa.

- Welshman Nigel Owens will referee the match.

- At least two records - and possibly more - will be broken on Saturday.

- McCaw will reach 148 Test caps.

- Ma'a Nonu and Conrad Smith will play their 62nd Test as a centre partnership.

- New Zealand winger Julian Savea will hope to break the record for the most tries scored in a World Cup.

- New Zealand have won 105 matches previously against Australia with Australia winning 42.
