New Williams F1 driver announced

Williams-new-driver 1

Following many months of speculation, Williams have announced who will partner Lance Stroll as their driver, completing the Formula 1 2018 driver line-up, and making Williams' drivers the youngest duo on the grid.

Sergey Sirotkin, a Russian 22-year-old driver, will make his F1 debut at the Australian GP kicking off the 2018 season. There was much discussion about who would take the final F1 seat after veteran driver Felipe Massa announced his retirement at the end of the 2017 season, there was potential for test driver Paul Di Resta to take the seat after a drive for Williams last season. Of course, there was also a lot of talk about the return of former F1 driver Robert Kubica as he did much testing with Williams over the last few months, he has now been announced as Williams' reserve and development driver for 2018.

Sirotkin had this to say following the announcement, “To say I’m happy and proud to join such a famous team like Williams is an understatement, it took a huge amount of work to get where I am, and I’m really happy and thankful to everyone involved. The result of our combined efforts has helped me achieve my dream, and rest assured the team can rely on me to deliver my best.”

Take a look at the new driver's racing history:

- Took third place AutoGP World Series

- Competed in the Formula Renault Series and signed to Sauber as a development driver

- Finished third in the GP2 Series two years in a row

- Has completed test driving for F1 teams Renault and Williams.

This announcement completes the Formula 1 2018 driver line-up, you can see the full list here
