The Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham 2010

Cheltenham National Hunt Festival

Thursday 18th March 2010

Day three of the National Hunt Festival was Ladies day at Cheltenham and saw the racecourse attract a host of female race goers, dressed in their finest and looking forward to another fantastic day at the races. Clients arrived at the Hospitality Suite to a vibrant atmosphere, with people enjoying the champagne on offer while sharing any tips ahead of the action out on track.

The hostesses then introduced John Francombe, the face of Channel 4 Racing and National Hunt Champion Jockey as the guest celebrity tipster for the afternoon. He went through his favourites from the runners and riders of the day and gave guests a great opportunity to get the inside scoop from the paddock.

Clients were then served a sublime four course luncheon and enjoyed the complimentary bar with friends and colleagues prior to the first race. Any last minute bets could be placed at the private tote betting stands inside the corporate hospitality suite, before making the short walk trackside to cheer on the horses in the final furlong.

The opening race of the day was the Jewson Novices’ Chase which was won by Copper Bleu who settled at a strong pace and also jumped well, eventually cruising past the rest of the field to take the first win of the day.

There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the racecourse and the glorious spring sunshine ensured it was smiles all round on a popular Ladies day at the festival. Race two saw perennial underachiever Buena Vista finally come good at Cheltenham after 15 previous attempts without success, as the well-backed pair Smoking Aces and Alfie Sherrin disappointed.

Guests had the luxury of coming and going as they pleased from the facility throughout the day; many chose to enjoy the complimentary bar and view the action on the plasma screens, others preferring to get out onto the track and soak up the atmosphere of the festival.

The third race of the day saw Albertas Run bounce back to his very best to win the Ryanair Chase under Tony McCoy. Much favoured Poquelin and Barbers Shop were heavily backed beforehand but faltered during the race to punters dismay, leaving bookmakers happy yet again.

The highlight of day three of the festival was undoubtedly the Ladbrokes World Hurdle Race, the ultimate stamina test for hurdlers. Big Bucks was looking for back-to-back wins here having been unbeatable since reverting to hurdles. The 5-6 favourite never gave his supporters a moment's worry and this time and Ruby Walsh showboated when looking round for non-existent dangers going to the last, "This is just a good horse," he said smiling broadly.

Experienced hostesses were on hand inside the hospitality suite to serve drinks and ensure the corporate entertainment continued without a hitch. The final two races for the day were won by Endeavour and Ballabriggs respectively, rounding off and excellent day’s racing at Cheltenham on day three of the festival.

Clients enjoyed the remainder of the afternoon in the luxurious hospitality suite, having experienced a memorable day of racing at Cheltenham in style, with first class corporate entertainment with Hospitalityfinder.
